Funeral Dinner Volunteers

A vital part of any parish is its members helping to serve their fellow parishioners in times of loss.  Responsibilities include set up, arrangement for and/or preparation of the food and beverages in the Cathedral Center.  Also needed are volunteers to prepare dishes that will be brought to the Cathedral Center on the morning of the funeral.  Coordinators will help identify specific needs.

Parish Nursing - Connecting Faith and Health

The goal of Parish Nursing is helping people to care of their most precious gift from God...their life.

  • Parish Nurses do not provide direct care, but instead focus on:
  • Health Promotion
  • Health Maintenance
  • Illness Prevention
  • The Parish Nurse ministry has the expertise of:
  • Nurses
  • Physician Consultant
  • Volunteers
  • Priests

The Parish Nurse may also be a:

  • Health Advocate
  • Heath Educator
  • Personal Health Counselor
  • Refferal Agent
  • Facilitator of Volunteers
  • Developer os Support Groups

Tother Cathedral Ministries working together as part of the health ministry team:

  • Saint Vincent DePaul Society
  • Youth Ministry

TA few of the activities/programs provided may include:

  • Blood Pressure Screening
  • Blood Drives
  • Flu/Pneumonia Immunizations
  • Educational Health Programs
  • Homebound Visits Including Eucharist
  • Grief/Bereavement Support

 The Parish Nurse may assist:

  • If you are immediate family member is ill
  • If you are feeling overwhelmed and need someone to talk to
  • If you need help dealing with loss or death
  • If you are looking for ways to improve your health
  • f you need information about home care or community serivces
  • If you are in need of prayer or Eucharist

Parish Office Administrator

Volunteers for this ministry are called upon to assist the secretary on occasion in the parish office weekdays during business hours. Duties include answering phones before holy days and during holiday seasons, preparation of large mailings, insertion of information into the parish bulletins, etc.

St. Vincent DePaul Society

This international organization of adults meets one Wednesday afternoon each month.  They sponsor the food collection, and special collections throughout the year to help those in need.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Homebound

Persons who serve in this ministry are trained to take the Holy Eucharist to those parishioners who are homebound and not able to come to Church due to disability and/or illness.  In this ministry, one is called to be a sign and a bridge, bearing Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, and uniting the homebound persons with the parish community.

Transportation

This ministry provides transportation to those in need of transportation to the Cathedral for Sunday Mass, missions, and other Cathedral Parish events.
